GT Enrichment Programs
One day in school workshops for K – Y6 students
The goal of these workshops is to encourage the children to explore ideas and challenge themselves by
“thinking outside the square”
trying new things
developing ideas through discussion, brainstorming, mind mapping, experimentation and sharing
taking intellectual and creative risks
sharing and working with other like minded souls
The enrichment days offered include but are not limited to the following topics:

FULL DAY PROGRAMS
· A Day in Narnia – Bring along your imagination to explore CS Lewis’ Narnia. By completing a series of challenges you can help return Narnia to Spring. Unlike Edward can you resist the temptation of the White Witch’s Turkish delight? Does Lucy’s healing potion really work?
- A Day at Hogwarts- Join Professor Dumbledore and Professor Snape in an action packed day of activities include Potions, Transfiguration & Herbology, A visit to Diagon Alley and the Whomping Willow. .
- Cooking – Become a member of our team of marketing consultants who have been given the project to discover why their company is not making a profit. This workshop will include designing, cooking and creative arts. The students work through some real world problem solving situations that face business on a regular basis.
- Treasured Trees – Through creative art, science experiments, literature and natural exploration children will investigate and discover the role of trees in many aspects of our world.
- Build A Village- A creative construction project designed to allow children to consider the geographic and demographic aspects of our environment. Each student will design and produce their own model of a village or town to take home.
- Around The World in 80 days -Join Phileas Fogg as he faces the challenge set by the Academy of Science. This adventure will require your creative imagination as you get involved in invention, science and world discovery.
- Egyptian Exploration - Discover the mysteries of Ancient Egypt by investigating the life and death of its pharaohs and people. We will look at the pyramids, mummies and death rituals; how the gods influenced their live and the use of hieroglyphics to record their history. Like an archaeologist we will try to piece together the evidence and look at the theories of how this civilization lived.
- Deltora Quest - Follow Leif, Barda and Jasmine’s adventures in the their quest through the 7 lands to retrieve the gems for the Belt of Deltora. A wide range of creative and challenging activities await you.
- Magical worlds - If you have a great imagination, like to create your own stories & enjoy writing then this is the workshop for you. We will read some wonderful imaginative stories think about what we believe makes a world magical & mysterious & how an author takes these ideas & creates a story. All your great ideas will be used to create your own original book. This could be about fairies, dragons, underwater worlds or some other magical world you have created.
- Nature’s dreaming - Indigenous peoples, including the Australian Aboriginals had a deep understanding and respect for the land and nature. This workshop will explore how they were able to live in harmony with the environment. We will use art, storytelling and science to better understand how they lived and what we can learn from them.
- Magical books - People have been recording their ideas, stories, myths and legends for thousands of years. This workshop will look at a wide range of ways this has been done. Each student will make a variety of different types of ‘books’ and create their own special original story or information book. An interest in writing and/or drawing and a good imagination is all that is needed for this workshop
- Piratology - The life of the pirate was both exciting and dangerous. this workshop will investigate some of the important skills and knowledge a pirate might have needed and also some of the decisions they might have needed to make. Activities will include finding treasure using mapping skills and astronomy, completing team challenges and designing your ideal desert island.
- Herbology with Professor Sprouts - This workshop will look at the inner workings of plants and trees. We will find out how they breathe, make their food and why they are so important to us all. In addition to exploring the science of biology each student will create their own living gardens to take home. We will also use plants to inspire some interesting craftwork to take home and share with your families
- Medieval - Travel back to the time of knights, squires, maidens and wizards. Discover what castle life was like, how did they live, eat, play, and communicate. Why were there so many wars? How were castles protected? Who had power? How do we know all this? We will use legends and historical information to help understand these questions. We will also use a range of problem solving and thinking strategies to better understand this exciting time in history
- The Borrowers - Imagine if the world suddenly grew or you suddenly shrank. Where would you live, what would you eat, how would you survive. This workshop looks at the importance of family and friends in our lives. It explores the science of physics and how innovation and invention are vital for us to adapt to a changing environment. Activities will include brainstorming, creativity, science experiments and imagination. Each student will create their own miniature room.
HALF DAY PROGRAMS
Up up and away -Since the earliest days man has been fascinated by the concept of flight.
Come along and explore how things fly, from the pterosaurs, to flies and birds and planes to rockets.
There will be lots of experimenting and plenty of models to take home.
Pyramids are not just tombs Explore the power of the pyramid. They are more than just tombs for the Ancient Egyptian Pharoahs. We will look at a variety of different types of pyramids, test their strength and discover where the have been used. Of course no pyramid workshop would be complete without some mummies. We will find out how the mummification process worked. Share your knowledge with us all and take home your models to share with your family.
Bubble Bubble Toil and Trouble - Come join the ‘wacky witch from the west’ and find out all about solids, liquids & gases. Using everyday things from the kitchen and laundry we will do lots of experiments that will fizz, bubble, squelch and stretch. Make your own volcano, slime, stalactite of bubbles and model rocket. Take home a range of models and activities to share with your family.
Brain power - This practical hands on workshop is all about how your body works. We will look at the central controller – the brain and the respiratory and circulatory systems – the lungs and heart. As well as making models we will be doing some dissection (optional). There will be plenty of chance to share your knowledge about how our body works as well as to use your creative and scientific skills.

Is what you see, what you get? - Our world is full of things that can be transformed into new and different things. This is what invention and innovation is all about and you need both facts and imagination to do it. We will do a variety of hands on activities that transform one object into something new. We will use your interest in biology and the environment along with your imagination to create your own magical creature and it's home. There will be lots to take home to share with family and friends. The workshops are conducted by
