INVENTIONS - How Stuff Works!  Grades K-2

CALLING ALL INVENTORS - come along for a day of investigation and go home with some great inventions and the knowledge of how to use
'SIMPLE MACHINES' to invent something by yourself. All of us use lots of inventions everyday to make our life easier.
Where did these come from? How and why do they work? You'll be surprised how many things you use but know little about.
Behind EVERY GREAT INVENTION lies some SIMPLE MACHINES (levers, hydraulics, cogs, wheels, axles, pulleys)
Lots of 'hands on' inventing throughout the day.

SCIENCE FACTION   Grades 3-6

We've all seen the science fiction movies with talking robots and spaceship destroying lasers. We've all been amazed at some of the special effects with flying cars and incredibly powerful computers. But how much of this is Science Fiction and how much is Science Fact?

This workshop explores the reality behind some of the common ideas seen in science fiction films and novels. We will examine the possibilities of lasers being used as weapons, as well as the problems facing designers of robots. In doing so, we will explore the properties of light, sound and matter, as well as learning more about the cutting edge of technology today. The workshop will be taught in a kind of Mythbusters approach, where we will put to the test some of the things you see in science fiction films.

HALLOWEEN SCIENCE & GROSSOLOGY Grades 2-6

Rude noises, bad smells and disgusting visuals will be our focus in this messy hands-on session. You’ll make an eyeball model, create friendly faux vomit, a fake wound and design a fearsome fart maker. The fun chemistry behind inorganic snot slime, pimples and wound pus is likely to inspire you to see the beauty behind stinky feet, bad breath and ear wax. Students take home models, noises, smells and lots of fun facts.

BUILD A VILLAGE - Grades K-2

A creative construction workshop designed to allow children to consider the natural and manmade aspects of our environment. We will look at maps and how they are used to represent natural and manmade environments. After thinking about all the things a community needs and how landforms and climate might impact on how we live each student will design and produce their own model of a village or town to take home. Students will be encouraged to use creative thinking, problem solving and imaginiation in developing their model and will also be given opportunities to share their knowledge and ideas through discussion and games.

HERBOLOGY WITH PROFESSOR SPROUT  -  Grades K-2

Use your scientific and creative skills in this workshop where we will investigate the inner workings of plants and trees. We will find out how they breathe, make their food and why they are so important to us all. In addition to exploring the science of biology each student will create their own living spring garden to take home. We will also use plants to inspire some interesting craftwork for you to take home and share with your families.
